OMG $10k Nursery!!!

Before I begin, let’s be honest…I had a budget and did not expect so much money to be put into our daughter’s space. However due to a slew of “rich auntie” friends and family, a perfectionist mother, and a father who adores both of us, it just happened. All furniture choices in her design are meant to easily flow as she grows. Take her crib for example, it’s a convertible bed. So when it’s time I have the convertible kit which will allow a smooth transition into her toddler years. Her color scheme is meant to be chic and soft, because who wants to be the 16-year-old with horrid pepto-pink walls. Plainly stated, all of my choices were thoughful, intentional, and only meant to add value to our home.

I will also like to be open and honest with you and share all the nitty-gritty details. You know things people do not like to talk about *cough, cough*… like how much things really cost? Where did you get it from? This is going to be long one but if I have your time, let’s get into it.

For starters, you can watch a video of the finished space by clicking the link and below I’ve shown a few photos of before and after. However, I recommend watching the video so that you can understand the flow of her room and be given more insight. Also, any thing written in green is hyperlinked to the item online if it is still available and will open in a separate tab. You’re welcome 😉 .

Before the overhaul….
And after!

So where did I start? First step in my process is to decide on the theme and color scheme. As mention in the video, I chose the theme “Bows and Bunnies” and to use blush/black/white and a mix of metals. Throughout the entire design process, I considered these two things always and used it as a guide. I chose to use a white-based grey that reflects blue by Sherwin-Williams called First Star. In general, the color grey is very popular in the design world and it kept the space looking bright and chic.

Once I had my theme and colors, I knew I wanted to create something special and unique for Macon. A little history lesson…if you know me, you know I’m the friend who likes to create home-made cards; I love to gift those close to me with specific, thoughful, and custom items; the friend you call when you have no idea what to give someone special. I am also an extreme DIY’er and I enjoy getting my hands dirty. So yea, I decided on a feature wall. I decided to create a name sign that glowed! Below I’ve listed all the cost details for that project, but let me know if there is any interest in actually seeing a step-by-step DIY post.

Next I went searching and started my registry. I started early and I took my time with my choices. I learned quickly to not be afraid to place high price items on my registry once friends and family started questioning me about certain items. You never know what those would like to get for your new bundle of joy. I chose to mainly use Pottery Barn Kids. I love their products, they always have a sale (think PROMO CODES!!!), they are a reputable company, AND their customer service is amazing.

Macon’s Nursery List

Please note that all the prices do not include tax, therefore her total room cost exceeded $10,000 dollars. However, with most of the Pottery Barn and Buy Buy Baby purchases made there was on average a 20% savings. When you create a registry, the company usually applies special offers as long as the item is listed. The asteriks were paid for by Amari and I. Think big picture…the matress bed combo is steep, however divide that by lets say 6 years and you are spending $166/year! One hundred and sixty-six dollars a year to provide my child with a safe and secure space to sleep sounds reasonable to me.

In total for her nursery, we personally spent around $6,218.44 before taxes, however I used online coupons when I could. As far as what was gifted to us by friends and family, that totaled to $3,000 which was huge and unexpected. I’m certain I may have forgotten a few items, however this is the closest to base price I could get (not including toys, clothing, car seats, strollers, etc.). So what’s my point?! New mommies leverage your family, friends, and network! Be sure to create thoughtful and well manicured registries, then send them to your loved ones because you never know who is rooting for you. Irregardless of the cost, DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ADD WHAT YOU WANT TO YOUR REGISTRY!

So there you have it folks, my truth! You maybe wondering if I’m finished and the answer is no. I still have a few more spaces I would like to edit, however there is no rush. In retrospect, I find myself not feeling as guilty. My original budget was $3000, then Amari surprised me by saying he would match it; and then my people really came through. At the ripe age of thirty-four, I am full grown and so is my circle. They can afford to spend a little, right? Lol. Maybe I should write a post about why having a child later on in life is a bonus. Anywho, I believe most new mommies will find (if they write it down and accept their truth, lol) that they are spending on average 3k to 5k solely on their new additions room.

Thank you to all our friends and family who love and support us. We really didn’t expect so much love and began our journey with humble intentions. We would like to give an even greater thanks to everyone for loving our baby girl just as much as we do. Macon loves you all and so do we. Thank guys!
